Long before spreadsheets or relational databases existed, Venetian merchants traded across Mediterranean trade routes. In 1494, Fra Luca Bartolomeo de Pacioli published his monumental work, "Summa de arithmetica, geometria, proportioni et proportionalita," standardizing the double-entry accounting method.
